What to Do When Stopped by the Police

The Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office is happy to now provide the What to Do When Stopped by the Police brochure in a digital format.

This informational brochure, originally developed in 1997 by the DA’s Office along with the Allegheny County Chiefs of Police Association, educates young people and student drivers on how to conduct themselves during interactions with law enforcement officers. It outlines best practices for when you encounter a police officer during a traffic stop to ensure your safety along with the police officer(s).

We believe that this information is not only useful to new student drivers but to everyone. The brochure includes sections such as what to do when the police approach you on the street, at your home, and at traffic stops. It also informs readers of their rights when encountering police officers.
